Here at Moontower HQ, we are elated that 5 of the 10 nominees for the 2012 Comedy Awards “Club Comic” category will be performing this April as part of the festival roster. They are:

Hannibal Buresss

 Moshe Kasher

John Mulaney

Chelsea Peretti

Rory Scovel

The Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival extends well-deserved congratulations to this talented group of stand-ups, which includes other nominees Ted Alexandro, Pete Holmes, Anthony Jeselnik, Kumail Nanjiani, and Amy Schumer.

Comedy is obviously so subjective and art as competition has an inherent degree of dubiousness [see: The Grammys, Carrot Top besting Bill Hicks at the 1994 American Comedy Awards, and every other film that lost the Academy Award for Best Picture to Rocky in 1976]. However, it is hard to quibble with this nominee list. And speaking to the caliber of the second annual Comedy Awards:

“Nominees are selected by the prestigious Comedy Awards Board of Directors. The 2012 Board includes: Adam McKay, Blair Kohan, Brad Grey, Budd Friedman, Carol Burnett, Caroline Hirsch, Chris Rock, Conan O’Brien, David Steinberg, Geof Wills, George Schlatter, Greg Cavic, Jamie Masada, James Dixon, Jay Roach, Jim Burrows, Jim Gosnell, Jimmy Miller, Joan Rivers, Jon Stewart, Lily Tomlin, Martin Lesak, Michael Rotenberg, Mitzi Shore, Peter Principato, Ray Romano, Rick Greenstein, Rory Rosengarten, Sandy Wernick, Sharon Jackson, Stephen Colbert and Steve Levine.

Winners will be selected by the Comedy Awards Voting Body, comprised of professionals from the comedy community including producers, writers, performers, directors and stand-ups. In addition, comedy fans from around the world will cast their votes in online-only categories here at The Comedy Awards.”

The 2012 Comedy Awards will take place on April 28, 2012, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The show will premiere on Comedy Central on Sunday, May 6th, at 8pm CST.
